Churches in Newbold Verdon Parish

St James, Newbold Verdon

Main Street Newbold Verdon Leicester
https://www.stjameschurchnewboldverdon.org/

St James is the parish church for the village of Newbold Verdon. Here you will find traditional worship, and a friendly spiritual centre for the local community.

For more than 800 years St James Church has stood as a witness to God's love in Newbold Verdon. It remains, as it has always been, a spiritual centre for the community, a place for prayer, for celebrating the events of our lives, and a place where we can learn to come closer to God. All who worship God in this place welcome you to join us in worship, prayer for the world and our local community, and in discovering God's love together.

Our patron saint is St James, whose shrine at Santiago de Compostella in Spain is one of the most important pilgrim sites in the world. We are all on a pilgrimage: a journey through life and a journey towards God. On our journey we are all at different points, but we know that we are going the right way if we travel together. Sacraments such as Baptism and Confirmation help us along our journey.

At the heart of Christian life is a person: Jesus. Getting to know him and what he means for our lives is at the heart of the Christian faith. To help people find out more about the Christian faith we hold regular Bible Study meetings.

We have a very active fund-raising social committee who are gradually re-introducing our excellent programme of events, which are open to the wider community and always popular.  The same is true of Cafe Jacques, a weekly drop-in cafe from 10 am to 12 noon every Monday in the Church Hall.

The Mothers Union is an international Christian charity that seeks to support families worldwide, supporting marriage and family life. Our branch meets on the second Thursday of each month and members work for the MU aims in many different ways.

Churches Together: Churches Together in Newbold Verdon unites St James with the Methodist and Baptist Churches in the village. We join together in worship, witness and service to the community throughout the year. Each year we organise joint events including a Children's Holiday Club, a united service for Remembrance Sunday, and most recently an alternative treats only Hallowe'en event.
